Tamar Zion's paintings are proof of her daring ability to manipulate perspective, blend hues and control brush strokes in order to aesthetically accentuate the key elements of specific messages that speak to the viewer from within. Though the artist does not consider herself to be a medium of any sort, her paintings speak as they are presented in an unusual mixture of realism and abstraction that evoke contemplation and reflection. In her Faces series, Zion paints abstractions of human faces as her invitation or reminder to us all to be cognizant of human nature through depictions of expressions of emotions. Though the canvas often appears to be a subliminal mirror, the same face painted on it, in many instances, subtly reminds us or, at times, challenges us to be aware of the invisible that is always present.
The artist's most recent body of work suggests a shift towards a certain freedom of expression, perhaps her own from being the unaware messenger. Indeed, while remaining loyal to her discourse on human emotions, her Abstractions series reflect the scientific, problem-solving component of the artist's makeup in a way that incorporates certain key elements that are necessary to effectively solve problems. It is no surprise that her most recent composition, aptly titled Surprise, represents a marriage of undivided attention or scientific precision, as was already presented in a work created earlier, The Vine, and as the artist herself puts it "love, truth, belief, receiving, giving, gratitude, attitude and awareness".
