Jonatas Chimen's paintings are only a part of his discourse serving as a platform for the artist to tell the story of the human experience.
Through his work, Chimen is able to bridge a gap between past and present by exposing what was once or is hidden. The discerning viewer may, indeed, encounter a nostalgic mirror or a challenge to reflect upon the meaning and the exercise of one's freedom of expression.
Behind the Veil is an example of Chimen's expression of the discovery of his heritage, and through it the artist invites viewers to seek and pierce the veils in their own experiences.
Chimen paints like the early masters whose techniques have been passed on to the artist by Conchita Firgau who studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Ferndando, in Madrid, the alma mater of the likes of Picasso and Dali.
