Barry Seidman grew up in New York’s fast-paced world of advertising. While attending the renowned Pratt Institute, where he studied graphic illustration and design, Seidman started in the mail room at William Esty, then, the 9th largest ad agency in the world. He quickly moved up to become an art director of photography. He worked at Esty for over 10 years – a century in the ad business.
Seidman then opened his own photography studio in New York City and eventually established himself as one of the top, advertising print-media photographers in the country.
He specialized in still-life photography and worked for most top major brands in the world, eventually expanding his work to all types of commercial print work, celebrity photography and television commercials. His work was recognized with every possible industry award including Clios, Tellys, Addys, the Art Directors Club, and American Institute of Graphic Arts awards.
His client list is a who’s who in international brands including: Heublein, Smirnoff, Nabisco, Panasonic, American Express, Colgate-Palmolive, AT &T, GlaxoSmithKline, Coca Cola, Proctor and Gamble, RJ Reynolds, Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Visa, various international travel and tourism groups, and many others.
With the advent of digital photography, Barry embraced the technology as another tool in his creative arsenal, refining his digital skills ultimately through experimentation. He started to devote his time to fine art photography, using his vast techniques and applied knowledge of lighting as a foundation. This led to various solo and group exhibitions, including Souvenirs, Bagged Drinks and Bloomers, all while still connected to the business of advertising.
Seidman, and long-time business partner and wife, Mary Ann Kurasz, decided to relocate in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and build a studio there. This is where Seidman now focuses on his personal work. He also maintains a studio presence in New York where he continues to shoot for advertising clients.
